Weekend Writing Challenge: Hand Writing Challenge

A journal opened with the handwritten pages fanning outwards on a rough hewn wooden table next to a pen and teacup.

While looking through writing challenges, I keep coming across the “Write Like Neil Gaiman” challenge. I enjoy a lot of Neil Gaiman’s work, but with my ADHD, I’m not sure I could handle a four to five hour, no distractions writing challenge this weekend. I could, however, try out drafting by hand during my normal coffee shop writing time.

It’s been a long time since I’ve drafted anything by hand. I have a Remarkable, so I can draft by hand and convert it to text. In fact, I bought the Remarkable primarily so I could draft emails and creative works by hand to see if it would have a positive effect on my drafts, but in practice I use it mostly for note taking.

I think this weekend I’m going to try out writing by hand in an actual notebook, and next weekend I’ll draft on my Remarkable and send the text to myself. I stopped drafting by hand via notebook because it takes so long to write and then type what I’ve written (and it can be hard to read my own writing if I really get in the zone).

Then I’ll see if there’s anything meaningful to glean from the results.
